Hair breaks, sheds, gets damaged, etc. And although we love it, hair is not the strongest part of our body. In fact, the daily actions involving hair – washing, combing, brushing, even the times your purse brushes against it – often cause normal hair loss. However, if you feel like your hair is constantly all over the place, then you might be experiencing hair loss that is more than normal.

How do you know the difference between normal hair loss and excessive hair loss? The normal amount of hair loss actually varies from person to person. This makes sense given that every person has a different amount of hair follicles. According to hair research, however, people who have denser hair, and a shorter hair growth cycle tend to lose more hair. Also, the average hair loss per day is 127 hairs. While this may be average, it could be excessive for someone who has very fine hair. Also, there is no real way to count how many hairs you actually lose.

The good thing to remember is that what you do daily is not usually the cause of excessive hair loss. You most likely have been losing the same amount of hair throughout your life. If it seems to be higher recently, then it might be more than normal and thus excessive.
